Historicial Development: Patterson and Miller Lumber Company bought for $14,921.39 the sawmill plant of G. L. Merrill and W. V. Whitt in December 1906, which had earlier been owned by W. B. Hogg. Located on Melling Creek on the Aaron Jackson survey, property included the sawmill, tenant houses, steam machinery, two log wagons, a two-horse wagon, sixteen work cattle, and two mules. The company sold the old mill site back to Merrill and Whitt on 6 February 1908; the creek was noted as ‘Medlin' rather than ‘Melling.' Whitt and Merrill would sell milled lumber to Patterson and Miller at $5.00 per thousand feet. G. L. Merrill sold out his share in the sawmill plant for $4200 to W. V. Whitt.
