Historicial Development:	The company began in 1949 as a corporation. Located on Smith Street, the company manufactured its products under both the Gilmer Flooring & Milling Company and the Gilmer Flooring & Manufacturing Company. The Gilmer Flooring and Manufacturing Company was one of the two largest community payrolls, according to The Gulf Coast Lumberman. On March 25, 1951, fire struck the plant, causing about $45,000 in damage. E. D. Futrell, the manager, said the mill would be working within fifteen days. The R. C. Martin Lumber Company bought, in 1957, the Gilmer Flooring & Milling Company. The Gulf Coast Lumberman announced in August 1964, that the name of the R. C. Martin Lumber Company at Gilmer and Winnsboro was being changed to the Martin Oak Flooring Company.
