Historicial Development: The 1910 census noted Robert E. Harkrider “owns planing mill” on Pecan Street, residence 43, Precinct 1, Center.z This was a large operation, according to the Southern Lumberman in 1908, that provided electricity to the community. The mill, which belonged to Harkrider, burned in the summer of 1908, with a loss of 150,000 feet of lumber. Other owners were J. D. Redditt and S. T. Fleshman.
