Historicial Development: | The C. P. Massey Lumber Company mill was reported by the Southern Industrial & Lumber Review, in 1906. Massey began his career in 1902 with a mortgage that produced for $300 a shingle mill, a 48-inch by 10-inch wood splitter, a log wagon, a Houston Standard and Gamble 25-horsepower steam engine and an HSG boiler. The report indicates that Massey had improved his manufacturing process. The mill was eventually moved some miles to the west in San Augustine County to Massey's Crossing over the Ayish Bayou.
According to San Augustine county records, C. P. Massey and C. J. Massey mortgaged for a Pony DeLoach sawmill. In each year from 1904 to 1906 C. P. Massey was taxed on $500 worth of tools and $500 of boilers and engines. |
