Historicial Development: John Westmoreland mortgaged a multi-purpose steam mill on a $666.66 note made out to H. Scott. In 1891, Westmoreland mortgaged his saw and cotton mills to E. A. Blount, a local agricultural and business factor, for $500. Later that year Waldrep bought the mill from Westmoreland, mortgage still subject to E. A. Blount, for $1,600. In 1892, Simon Burkett and G. M. Beard bought the cotton gin of the John Westmoreland Mill on a mortgage to E. W. Gunning for $1250. Apparently Waldrep transferred the mill to a Niles Chapman who transferred it to James Ishmael, who died. E. W. Gunning, who earlier factored the mill for Burkett and Beard, assumed the line from the Estate of James Ishmael in December 1897.
