Historicial Development: J. B. Allen was an officer in the T. B. Allen hardwood lumber company that was operating near Brookeland in Sabine County. Allen apparently operated his own sawmill in San Augustine County. On 20 May 1906 he mortgaged for an Ames 11-inch by 12-inch steam engine, a boiler, a Curtis Dixie D sawmill, a 30-inch 3-saw edger, and two 56-inch circular saws. He was taxed by the county on commissary, product, tools, and boilers from 1907 to 1910.
