Historicial Development: Hardy Beard, according to M. Beard, operated a portable sawmill plant in San Augustine and Angelina counties during the 1930s. When interviewed by Vernon Beasley, Hubert Busby, a San Augustine lumberman, noted that Beard used a portable, diesel-powered sawmill in the Broaddus area; Beard moved the location of the mill often.
