Historicial Development: The firm of J. L. Mitchell and G. N. Jeter, according to Panola County records, mortgaged, on October 18, 1907, with Mrs. Lillie S. Jones, for a planing mill machinery, to wit: a No. 29 L. A. Woods double surfacer and matcher for $600. A record dated May 19, 1908, reveals that the planing mill was located at Carthage and the sawmill at Smitherman's mill, which was about eight miles from Carthage.
