Historicial Development: Panola County records reveal that J. S. Lowery (county clerk's spelling is almost illegible) mortgaged his sawmill for $660 in June 1887. Equipment mortgaged included a log wagon, a 20-horsepower steam boiler and an 18-horsepower steam engine, one yoke of cattle, and a sawmill carriage.
