Historicial Development: R. R. Chaney (with different spellings) operated sawmills in at least three places in Panola County: Posts Mill, north of Beckville, and Haysland. Gregg County records note that the R. R. Chaney sawmill north of Beckville was being operated by J. J. Johnson in 1895. It apparently had been leased or sold earlier to G. T. Merrill before Johnson began milling there. He contracted to sell his output for a year to T. E. Clemons.
