| Historicial Development: | R. R. Chaney, a sawmiller active in Gregg and Panola counties, and the Post family operated a sawmill at Posts Mill for almost twenty years. Posts Mill, according to the Panola County records, was situated three miles south of Beckville, in Panola County. Apparently, it was named after the Post family who conducted a grainmilling business there. The Galveston Weekly News, in 1893, reported that the Post Brothers were sawmillers at Beckville and milling 20,000 feet daily. The mill, according to Panola County records, was known as Posts Mill and about three miles south of town. R. R. Chaney of Chaney's Mill was also located in Panola County, at Post's Mill, three miles south of Beckville, according to Panola County records. He sold, on July 16, 1888, 661,280 feet of lumber. On August 1, 1888, he sold another 55,559 feet of lumber to Armstrong & Evans. It is likely Post Brothers merged with Chaney, for in 1897 C. W. Post bought an one-half interest in Chaney's mill for $1,500, located at Posts Mill. Equipment included an Atlas engine, a planer, the sawmill, a three-saw edger, a resaw, and log wagons, livestock.
Although the Lumbermen's Credit Association listed the sawmill as being at Beckville, county records noted that the sawmill was five miles southwest of Beckville when Chaney and Post mortgaged 200,000 feet of lumber to the Torrans Manufacturing Company for $850. The firm's credit was rated as “slow pay” by the LCA in 1905
