Historicial Development: Kirby Lumber Company established a logging camp at Woodmyer on Armstrong Lake near the Sabine River in the eastern portion of Newton County. The community was named for J. F. Woods and C. P. Myer, the company woods foreman and company general manager, respectively. The community had a school, a commissary, a post office, and an artesian water supply. Some of the families lived in specially fitted boxcars. Cows and chickens were kept by some of the tenants. Ice blocks were available. Population had reached 750 shortly before the camp closed in 1918.
