Historicial Development: An advertisement in the Southern Industrial and Lumber Review on March 20, 1907 indicated a Carter Lumber Company mill at Mahl. Instead of running its own mill, Carter Lumber Company may have been contracting the sawmill cut of another plant in the area. Nonetheless, county deed records reveal that Carter was buying significant amounts of land south of Caro from 1904 to 1906.
