| Historicial Development: | The Spurlin family operated sawmills at three sites in western Nacogdoches County. The first was located on Highway 21 about three miles west of Nacogdoches.
The next two, which operated at various times from about 1932 to World War II, were located about eight miles west of Alazan on what Ms. Hunter described as the “mail route road.” When the mill burned it was moved to a nearby creek. Individuals involved in running the mill included Claude Spurlin, Art Spurlin, Cecil Christopher, Jake Christopher, and Loyd Johnson, the father of Ms. Hunter. |
