Historicial Development: Louis W. Rulfs owned and operated a sawmill complex just north of Spradley Ferry, on the north bank of the Angelina River in Nacogdoches County. The Jacksonville Journal reported in 1949 that the plant was built in 1947. It consisted of a sawmill and planing mill. Rulfs did his logging on 2,000 plus acres. He employed between thirty-five to fifty men in the woods crew and at the mill. He appeared in the 1957 edition of Nelson T. Samson's Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas and in the Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958. The business address was 110 Carolyn in Nacogdoches.
