Historicial Development: Marion County Deeds of Trust that the George W. Keen sawmill was located on lots fronting Main Street, during the later 1860s. In 1868, Keen leased the sawmill for two years to R. O. and A. W. Wood. Marion County records identify Keene as both “Keen” and “Keene.” Keene owned another mill site about two miles southeast of Jefferson, which he sold to to T. B. Borst in 1870.
