Historicial Development: This mill began after World War II as a hardwood flooring operation near Jacksonville, according to the Cherokee County History. It was listed in the Nelson T. Samson's Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas in 1957 as a producer of pine lumber. The Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958 noted that the Brown Manufacturing Company, with W. H. and Frank Brown, began in 1945; by 1957 they employed more than fifty workers.
