Historicial Development: According to Archie Birdsong Matthews, the Zarsky Lumber Company built a sawmill at Zavalla about 1940. The 35,000 foot capacity mill was still milling lumber in 1952. A former resident of Zavalla who grew up and retired there, remembered that it was located northeast from 147 and southwest of 330.
