Historicial Development: Alton and Leo Hicks ran several mills south of Alto. This one, three miles south of town on Highway 69, was a steam-powered sawmill. It added a post-treating plant in 1976. Alton Hicks was managing this mill by 1983, while Leo Hicks was operating another mill a mile north up the road.
