History: | Articles of Incorporation were filed May 18, 1906, at Austin, with stock capitalized at $150,000. Only some of the right of way had been secured by then, but the intent was to have it completed by the first of the year. Some interest was manifest of perhaps eventually having the line run to Houston, for some of those mentioned in the charter had timber and industry holdings in that area. The American Lumberman , on June 2, 1906, reported “The capital stock is $150,000. The principle offices will be at Groveton. The road will be put through with all possible haste and it is expected to be running trains into Lufkin before January 1.“ W. F. N. Davis, general manager of the North & South Texas, was also manager of Trinity County Lumber Company, a M. T. S. Sloan and W. T. Joyce firm.
