History: | T. S. Dunn and W. J. Fowler, in 1889, were operating a sawmill and logging road eight miles east of Conroe, at a spot known both as Magnolia Switch and Tharp's Switch. Keeling identifies the engine as a narrow gauge geared locomotive. H. J. Montgomery also sold a mill in that area year before. Fowler sold out to Dunn on October 2, 1889. The equipment passing to the sole ownership of Dunn included a Shay tram locomotive, four log cars, two wagons, and twelve yokes of oxen. On October 4, 1890, Dunn sold the mill and other properties to H. J. Montgomery, including eleven yokes of oxen, four log cars, the Shay locomotive, and the four log trucks. H. J. Montgomery may have sold his stock to Plummer & Matthews. |
