History: The American Lumber MIlls, or American Lumber Company, at New Waverly, in Walker County, operated a sawmill and a tram road. The mill cut and dressed about15,000 feet daily in 1898, the lumber being shipped over the tracks of the International & Great Northern. Its logging tram had a steam locomotive that ran on standard-gauge tracks.
