This was the site of an 1850 sawmill and gristmill. Mostly cotton planters settled the site in the 1850s. Several sawmills including the H.L. Anderson and the T.H. Furrh lumber mills were established in and around DeBerry. The T.H. Furrh mill lasted for 16 years and produced lumber and corn meal. The oldest mill was the H.L. Anderson mill, which was established in 1850, and used the railroad at the Elysian Fields to transport their lumber and corn meal. Marker located on FM 31, just north of US 79
